Want a free printer? We did – and here’s how we use ours: First, you should understand that we are a small business, but a good deal of what we produce is printed material. We produce a bi-monthly video series, and in every VHS tape and DVD we release, we include cards and other printed documents. We also print a lot of tests for the JN Productions CPE courses, and JN Productions video programs use a lot of printed scripts. In addition, we print a lot of flyers and ads. Given all of that, we end up printing things every day, so the idea of a getting a free Xerox Phaser color printer intrigued us. As always, there’s a catch to get the printer for free: you have to purchase the ink from Xerox and you have to print a given number of pages per month. You do this for three years and then keep the printer. If you don’t do a lot of printing, this may not be for you. However, if you find yourself at Kinko’s once or twice a week, then this could be a real value. We also found that having the printer eliminated the need for a high-priced copier. The quality of printing is great. You can have it automatically print on both sides of a sheet, and the printer is fast. It will print up to 8½” x 14”. It will print envelopes, cards, and makes photographs come alive. We have greatly increased our efficiency and reduced our costs by printing virtually everything in-house.
